Babe Update

I had my 38 week Doc appt today, and it was a little more eventful than I had hoped for. At my last 2 appointments I hadn't progressed at all, and we were hoping I would stay that way until my scheduled c-section. However, I have had some decent cramps and pressure in the last week and had a pretty strong feeling that things had changed. As of today, I am a little over 3 cm dilated, 50 percent effaced, and the baby is super low. Quite a change from last week! We have just had it in our heads all along that this baby would be born on the 8th, so the fact that it very well might be earlier has come as a bit of a shock to us both. Don't get me wrong, we are totally excited, we just have a plan for the 8th, and not one for beforehand. So, as of tonight we are coming up with a plan of what to do with Alec if something happens, and I have strict instructions from the doc to go directly to the hospital the minute I start to have contractions since she doesn't want me to go too far into labor, especially coinsidering I was at 6 cm when I showed up at my doc appt with Alec and wasn't even sure I was in labor or not. We have our fingers crossed that little Sungy will stay put at least until the weekend when my dad and Loretta get here, but you just never know. I still think I will make it to the 8th, but Matt is not nearly as convinced!

On an unrelated note, the pic is from this weekend. We had Mark, Christie, Hayden, Piper and their french bulldog, Oakley, over for dinner and a playdate. We are so happy to have some of our old CO buddies here in IL with us and it's really fun for Mark and Matt, who were friends as kids, to raise their boys together.

Big Brother

Alec attended big brother class at the hospital this weekend. There were about seven 3 year olds in the class, and it was a complete riot. He learned a lot about how to help with a baby, and had a great time practicing with his doll. He gave the baby a bottle, a pacifier, he swaddled it, and even changed a diaper. He also got to watch a short movie about what will happen when the baby is born and decorate a bib for the baby. It was a cute class and we are definitely glad we went. The dialogue b/w the teacher and a group of soon-to-be 3 year old siblings was absolutely hilarious, they had the parents laughing the entire time. We think Alec is going to do just great as a big brother!

You should have seen the 3 year olds trying to be gentle with the babies

Alec even had Grammy join him all the way from CO

...and in case you didn't think I could possibly get any bigger, here is proof that I can. I started retaining water this weekend, so I now have a nice extra layer of padding on my arms, legs, hands, and feet. My mom was here this weekend, which was a total treat and super nice for me b/c she helped me get everything finished and ready, and she babysat Alec on Sat so Matt and I could go on a date. Thanks so much Mom, we love you!

Like Father like Son

Alec continues to be completely enamored with Matt and every single thing that he does. They have a pretty funny routine in the morning, which involves Alec helping Matt get ready for work, and in turn get ready for work himself. Part of Alec's job is to pick a belt, watch and shoes for Matt which match his outfit. This of course has led to Alec also needing a belt, watch and shoes for his day at the office. I told Matt on their way downstairs this morning that he needed to get a pic b/c it's hilarious. So, here is Alec ready for work. He has to leave Matt's shoes at the top of the stairs b/c he can't make it down in them, but here he is sporting a watch, a belt, carrying his lunch (which he still packs with Matt every night) and his breakfast bar, which he insists on having b/c Matt eats one every morning in the car on the way to work. So funny, and even funnier this morning when I overheard Matt ask Alec if he wanted to wear his own orange watch instead of one of Matt's, and Alec's response was "No Dad, orange does not match what I am wearing."

The rest are just some cute pics we took of Alec a few weeks ago with a pic of the baby for the Valentine's he sent out.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day from Wheaton. Nothing too exciting going on here, aside from the fact that it is 40 degrees out, which is warmer than it has been since Novemeber, and everyone in Il seems thinks it's spring. It's amazing what living in the frigid cold will do to your internal thermostat; I was outside in my tank top this morning and felt great! It will be pretty interesting to see the mess when all of this snow melts, but goodness is it nice to be able to be outside w/o 6 layers of clothes on. We have just been hanging out and all gettng excited about the baby coming. Alec talks about the baby constantly and seems genuinely excited about the concept of being a big brother. We have him signed up for a big brother class at the hospital this weekend where they teach him basic baby care stuff, and he is very excited! Nothing too exciting aside from that, we are looking forward to Grammy's visit this weekend, and I guess I should probably start to do things like pack a hospital bag and get my diaper bag organized since baby Sungy is scheduled to make his/her debut in just 3 weeks. Hope everyone had a fun Valentine's Day. Here are some random pics from the last week.

We went over to Mark and Christie's this weekend so Alec could play with Hayden and we could visit new baby Piper. The boys got to go sledding!

A 36 week belly shot, and a not-so-cute face from Alec

Making dinner

Alec with his lego planes. He loves legos right now and spends hours each day taking his planes for trips and parking them all at the airport. What's really funny is that 3/4 of them are Matt's lego planes from when he was little. Matt has about as much fun as Alec does with the planes.

Snow, snow, snow

Just as Matt and I were saying how it never snows a significant amount at a time in IL, we get a blizzard. The news reports didn't lie, we got dumped on last night and woke up to about 3 feet of snow this morning. It was pretty wild. It snowed all day yesterday, but started to really come down yesterday evening and at about 6pm the wind started blowing and it was like a scene from a movie. Complete white out with howling winds and lightning, which neither of us had ever seen in a snow storm before. Lucky for us, our power stayed on, which we were very skeptical about considering the winds, and we only lost our cable service for about a half a day. Surprisingly, the sun came out for a bit today and it ended up being really pretty. I of course didn't have anything with shoveling the driveway, which was no small feat. Matt did almost 3/4 of it himself, and then two of our neighbors came over and helped snow blow the rest. It's pretty funny to look outside right now b/c there is so much snow it looks like we are in North Dakota or Alaska, and considering average Feb temps here, I think we will be seeing this snow for quite awhile. However, we did all enjoy having the day off together, I didn't go into labor (which I wasn't expecting to, but we did joke about what a mess that would have been) and aside from a really sore back, Matt survived the shoveling process. All in all, we all really enjoyed the blizzard; something about this much snow just makes you feel like a kid again!

Shoveling a path out the front door for Brody - he was totally freaked out and it took him until about 10 this morning to finally go to the bathroom in the snow.

Out the back door - Matt had to shovel his way to the garage before they could start the driveway.

Loving it

The driveway, Matt deserves a medal, or a snow blower

Can you believe he shoveled all this snow??

And here is a belly shot, which I can't believe I am posting b/c I look so giant. I am still feeling really good and the baby looks great. I did, however, have a doc appt on Monday where my belly measured over 2 weeks big. My doc actually took my measurement twice b/c she couldn't believe how big it had gotten in just 2 weeks. Her exact words were, "it's a good thing you have a c-section planned, b/c this is not a small baby." Looks like I'm on track to birth another little moose, just like Alec!
