Easter
We had an action packed Easter weekend. Our last set of company, Matt's parents, came in mid week last week and were here with us through the weekend to celebrate and meet little Charlie. We had a nice visit, pretty relaxing and low-key, but they got to spend a lot of time with both boys. Alec got to pull out his motorized speed boat from Santa and show them that, which was a highlight for him. Sadly, the weather didn't cooperate much and it was pretty rainy and dreary, but we made the most of it and their trip included going to the park, the children's museum, Alec's swim lessons and over to a childhood friend of Matt and I's from Arvada for Easter dinner. I loved the help and it was great for them to spend time with the kiddos. Here are some pics from their visit and the last week. The first photo is of Alec modeling an Easter hat that he made with Matt at Daddy class; a class they just started together at the rec center on Monday nights. Alec has been looking forward to it for weeks, and they have had a good time so far; I guess they play games, sing songs, cook, do crafts, AND, give the mommy's an hour off.

Snuggles with Papa Gene
Alec went on a total of four egg hunts this weekend! This was the first hunt, hosted by our neighbors across the street. This is a pic of all the kiddos on our block who participated. Alec, and his pal Morgan, are the babies of the group, but they managed to make out with plenty of eggs.
Dying eggs with Grandma Susan and Daddy. Before they started Alec told Susan that she also needed to take off her shirt....she respectfully declined:)
If you look closely you can see Alec's fat lip, which he got from falling down the stairs (totally b/c he was horsing around on them) earlier in the day. The kid is literally always covered in battle wounds.

Finding his basket on Easter morning. We woke up to, "Mommy, mommy, the bunny left an egg outside my door!" He was really cute and excited about the egg hunt in the house.

This was literally hilarious, they would open the eggs, pull out the candy, shove it into their mouths and then toss the eggs aside. Good thing they spent the entire afternoon running around burning off all that sugar.
Even Brody got to come, and he channeled his youth and spent the afternoon playing in the yard with Oakley.

Abby, Ross and Papa Randy
We were thrilled to have Abby and Ross here last week, and Papa Randy (aka Mr. Tabasco) took advantage of their stop in Chicago and came back for a few days to visit too. We had a full house, and both boys loved all the attention. Tuncle Toss even got to ring in his 30th b-day here in rockin Wheaton. The celebration wasn't too crazy, but we did make it out for a nice sushi dinner and home in time to share some b-day cake with Alec. We have really missed them over the last 7 months and thoroughly enjoyed their company and help with the kiddos. Alec kept them on their toes and did a great job of exposing them to what life is like with a 3-year old boy, while Charlie snuggled right up and loved on them both. Thanks so much for coming guys, and welcome back to the US! Here are a bunch of pics from their visit.
Alec helped me make the cake and then had his eye on it all day. We had to tell the sitter to make sure he didn't eat any before we got home.
On Sun we had some CO friends over for a bbq. Here is Charlie with his first lady friend Piper, who is 2 months his senior.
Alec and his best IL bud Hayden. They literally ran around playing for nearly 5 hours, they are a parents dream come true when they are together - we never see them!

This is right after Hayden left, also post pink ice cream and climbing underneath the deck in the dirt with Hayden.

Alec's new obsession, watching videos on U-tube. He wants to watch boats, trains, planes, and his favorite, trash trucks. Who knew that a 10 minute video of a trash truck driving around picking up trash could bring a boy such bliss.

We headed over to the neighborhood zoo on Sat with my dad for an egg hunt. The weather wasn't good, so the outdoor egg hunt ended up being just a mess of eggs and goodies all over the floor in a small indoor room, but Alec liked it nonetheless.
I'm with him, I think the bunny is a little freaky too!
Proudly displaying his loot
Charlie slept like a champ in the baby hawk through the whole event.

Abby Root & Tuncle Toss
We were thrilled to be Abby and Ross' last stop on their trip around the world. We had a great time with them in Chi town, and Charlie loved meeting his Aunt and Uncle. I have a ton of pics to post, but for now, a darling pic of Charlie with the elephant they brought for him all the way from Africa!! Thanks Abby Root and Tuncle Toss

One Month
Happy 1 month b-day to our sweet little Charlie!! It's hard to believe that we have had him in our lives for a month already, but it also seems like a really long time ago that I was pregnant and that we were in the hospital. Charlie is the sweetest, most cuddly little man ever and all three of us love the new dynamic he has added to our family.
Some things we can document about him at a month old:
* He loves to be held, and his favorite position is laying on his belly on your chest. He would spend all day every day in this position if we let him.
*He also loves to stretch out with his head bent way backwards; we think he must have been in a similar position in my belly. Matt and I get a kick out of this b/c we remember his cousin Reid doing the same thing as a newborn.
*He loves to look at lights.
*He has just started smiling and although I wouldn't call it deliberate yet, he is almost there.
* He has also started cooing at us, particularly in the mornings after I feed him and change his diaper.
*He loves to be held and carried in the baby hawk and it always puts him right to sleep.
*He is a great and incredibly loud nurser! He gulps, swallows and snorts while he eats and generally makes a ton of noise.
*He loves to gaze up at our faces and spends a lot of time in our arms just staring wide-eyed up at us.
*He definitely has reflux and we can see and hear when his tummy is bothering him; he scrunches up his legs and kind of writhes all around. Luckily, it seems to get better and better as he grows, and while I hate to give it to him, his reflux meds make a huge difference.
*The only thing I would say that Charlie truly hates is sleeping on his back. He is totally miserable in that position. We think his reflux has a lot to do with it b/c he gulps, gasps, chokes, hiccups, and wheezes non-stop while on his back. He will be in a dead sleep and the minute we put him down on his back, or roll him over from his belly, he is awake within minutes. So, he has been sleeping in his car seat at night, kind of rolled on his side, and we have had a lot of luck with that. He generally sleeps through the night only waking up twice to eat. For as much as he loathes sleeping on his back, he LOVES sleeping on his belly, and takes advantage of all tummy time by promptly falling asleep. It kills me to not be able to let him sleep on his belly b/c he is so much happier and more comfortable in that position. We go to the doc at 6 weeks and I'm planning to ask him about sleep and sleep positions then, although I fear I already know what he will say. For now, we are content to use the car seat at night, which gives him a little more relief and I let him lay on his belly for naps if he is in the pack n play with me in the room.
Generally, Charlie is a super sweet, very easy going little guy! We love him to bits and can't wait to see how he will grow and change in the upcoming months. The pic below of him on his belly lifting up his head is a dead ringer for Alec at that age, I actually think I have a pic that is almost identical of Alec. I'll post both if I can find them.

Although you can't tell, he enjoys the bath.
What a precious little baby
