17 Months

We can hardly believe it, but Alec is 17 months old today! Like I said in my previous post, we can hardly believe how fast time is flying by and we are loving every minute of Alec right now. A few of his new and favorite skills from this past month are: climbing - and when I say climbing - I mean climbing on everything. He has learned to get on and off of all our chairs, our couches, our tables and the side of the bathtub. He loves nothing more than to climb up on something and then stand on it, no matter how precarious this may be - like standing on the rocking chair in his playroom, and then look directly at us to show off his feat and to see whether or not we approve. If we don't, that of course encourages him and he will continue at whatever it is he is doing to get a reaction from us. He also loves his board puzzles and can now correctly put all the pieces in them - even in the puzzles he doesn't do very often, he loves to read books, and will usually bring one over to us and then back into our laps so we can read it to him, he can correctly identify all of his body parts - he finally figured out nose and this month strated pointing to his toes and knees, he can also correctly identify about 85% of the pictures in his books, he loves planes and trucks and recognizes their sounds. He points up to the sky whenever a plane flys by and he runs to the window whenever we hear the trash truck, he has started to correctly play with his leggos - he can snap them together and take them apart, he loves to be naked and play chase - sprinting around upstairs w/o his clothes on before a bath is one of his favorite things, he has started (thanks to a lot of teaching from his dad) to blow bubbles in the bath when we ask him to, he continues to amaze us with his receptive language - we ask him to do the most obscure things and he obliges (just yesterday I handed him a diaper and ask him to put it in the Genie, and he carried it to his room, opened up the diaper genie, and correctly pushed the diaper in), he has gotten much more affectionate and will now bear hug Matt and I's legs spontaneously throughtout the day, and he is attempting, slowly but surely, to talk. Here is a list of the words he has attempted to use: dada, mama, uh-oh (he loves this one right now and uses it every chance he gets,) ball, baby, bottle, bubbles, truck, nae-nae (for his Aunt Renae,) Nate, yes, dog, hi, hot, cheese and sausage. Here is an array of pics from the last month that I haven't already posted.

He climbed up in this chair on his own - as a matter of fact, he is now obssessed with climbing and standing on it during class.

The dog park - a great workout for Brody and Alec

He just gets cuter and cuter. He'll make an adorable member of the wedding and I can't wait to see him in a tux.
Grammy misses Alec.

I agree about the cuteness. And, I just made a new post for James, and it is weird how many of the same things I posted about (perceptive language skills and forcing people to read them books). Crazy. I hope that James has a language boom like Alec seems to have had soon! Everything is still "da," or "ba," here. Alec's first real word being sausage is still my favorite thing about him!
