Nate and Renae got married this Saturday and Alec was one of the ring bearers. He looked darling in his tux, and although he didn't do too much smiling on request for all the cameras, he was in good spirits for most of the night.

17 Months
We can hardly believe it, but Alec is 17 months old today! Like I said in my previous post, we can hardly believe how fast time is flying by and we are loving every minute of Alec right now. A few of his new and favorite skills from this past month are: climbing - and when I say climbing - I mean climbing on everything. He has learned to get on and off of all our chairs, our couches, our tables and the side of the bathtub. He loves nothing more than to climb up on something and then stand on it, no matter how precarious this may be - like standing on the rocking chair in his playroom, and then look directly at us to show off his feat and to see whether or not we approve. If we don't, that of course encourages him and he will continue at whatever it is he is doing to get a reaction from us. He also loves his board puzzles and can now correctly put all the pieces in them - even in the puzzles he doesn't do very often, he loves to read books, and will usually bring one over to us and then back into our laps so we can read it to him, he can correctly identify all of his body parts - he finally figured out nose and this month strated pointing to his toes and knees, he can also correctly identify about 85% of the pictures in his books, he loves planes and trucks and recognizes their sounds. He points up to the sky whenever a plane flys by and he runs to the window whenever we hear the trash truck, he has started to correctly play with his leggos - he can snap them together and take them apart, he loves to be naked and play chase - sprinting around upstairs w/o his clothes on before a bath is one of his favorite things, he has started (thanks to a lot of teaching from his dad) to blow bubbles in the bath when we ask him to, he continues to amaze us with his receptive language - we ask him to do the most obscure things and he obliges (just yesterday I handed him a diaper and ask him to put it in the Genie, and he carried it to his room, opened up the diaper genie, and correctly pushed the diaper in), he has gotten much more affectionate and will now bear hug Matt and I's legs spontaneously throughtout the day, and he is attempting, slowly but surely, to talk. Here is a list of the words he has attempted to use: dada, mama, uh-oh (he loves this one right now and uses it every chance he gets,) ball, baby, bottle, bubbles, truck, nae-nae (for his Aunt Renae,) Nate, yes, dog, hi, hot, cheese and sausage. Here is an array of pics from the last month that I haven't already posted.

Where has the time gone?
Kind of a random and sentimental post - but hey. It has really hit me lately how fast time seems to be going and how grown up Alec seems. It's funny b/c when he was just a newborn I loved the 12th of every month and the fact that he was getting older and changing, and now I feel the complete opposite. While I love watching Alec grow up, I also hate that it is happening so fast. I feel like when I am finally able to accept that he is another month older, it's already been a month and I'm left wondering where the time has gone. Matt and I both think that he is at an absolutely perfect age right now and are loving every minute of it. His little personality is really starting to show and we just adore his fearless, independent and daring little nature. We also love that he has gotten a lot more affectionate and seems to enjoy nothing more than spending time playing w/ mom and dad. One of his new tricks is taking our hands and pulling us around to where he wants us to go, which is SO cute, and of course he basically wants one of us with him in his playroom at all times. He loves nothing more than playing outside right now, which he has gotten to do a lot of w/ the warm weather, and we are both totally impressed w/ his new ability to do his board puzzles. He can get all of the pieces into exactly the right spots, and you can just see his little brain thinking as he does it. All in all, we think he is wonderful and while we look forward to his 17 month b-day, we will miss 16 months very much!
He loves pulling the candy out of this dish and then throwing it back in b/c it makes a funny noise. He also likes to pull of a few candy wrappers w/ his teeth.
Alec pulled the jar of bubbles out from a drawer this week and proudly handed them to us and said "ba-bles", so we were happy to let him play w/ them.

Hugs
In the last few weeks Alec has decided that he loves to give hugs, which Matt and I can't get enough of. He will see either of us from across the room and literally charge into our legs and wrap his arms around us. It is so cute! He also continues to pass out kisses non-stop, and what is particularly funny about it is that whenever Alec gives one person a kiss he wants to give everyone else a kiss too. It turns into quite and ordeal - he will usually go around the room pointing at everyone there before he kisses them. He has actually made quite a reputation for himself as a ladies man with all the moms at story time (where he is the only boy,) with this behavior. And...he has been successfully staying in the childcare center at the gym for about the past 2 weeks - no crying!!! I am still letting him take his blanket, which I hope to eventually eliminate, but he has made such a drastic improvement that I'm going to let him keep it for the time being.
And here are some cute pics that don't really correspond with this post at all.
